“If a doula was a drug, it’d be unethical not to use one.”

FAQs

  • A doula is a trained professional who provides non-medical physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman (and their partner) before, during, and shortly after childbirth.

  • A midwife is a medical provider who can monitor the health of you and your baby, perform clinical tasks, and deliver your baby.

A doula is not a medical professional. We’re there for your comfort, advocacy, emotional well-being, and overall birth experience.

  • A partner in giving birth is an amazing asset but for most partners this may be their first or second (or more) births ever. A doula has been trained and has experience to handle the many different situations that may arise. We also help your partner throughout the pre, during, and post pregnancy moments too.

  • We provide hands-on comfort measures (like massage or counterpressure), breathing techniques, position changes, emotional reassurance, and help with decision-making. We’re your calm, informed presence in the room.

  • If the hospital allows it, yes! Even in the OR, a doula can provide emotional support, explain what’s happening, and help your partner stay grounded. If not in the OR, we’ll be there before and after to support you.

  • Absolutely. Doulas can support all kinds of births—medicated, unmedicated, induced, scheduled, spontaneous—you name it. My role is to support your choices, not judge them.

  • Yes! Part of our prenatal visits often includes working together to create a birth plan that reflects your values and helps you feel prepared.

  • During prenatal visits, I will provide education, emotional support, birth planning guidance, comfort techniques, and partner preparation to help you feel confident and supported heading into labor.

Prior to meeting, you’ll receive an in-depth birth-preference form that will help me know how to guide our visits!

  • Some insurance plans or HSAs/FSA accounts may reimburse part of doula services. I can provide an invoice to help you file, and we can talk more during your consultation.

  • Ideally this wouldn’t happen but if something does, I always have a trusted backup doula available. You’ll never be left unsupported.

  • Yes! I offer an automatic 10% discount to anyone to attends a birthing class. Anyone who will be present during labor and the birth needs to attend (i.e. birthing partner).

Birth is intricate and having a base knowledge of expectations helps immensely with creating a birth plan, knowing risks and benefits, and more!
